We had a wonderful night at the Kid’s BAFTA’s last night where we won an award for our short ‘Good As Goaled’ which we made with the super-talented Tom Gran and Martin Woolley for the wonderfully supportive Disney XD team in EMEA.
Tom and Martin are among the first wave of people that we worked with at Wildseed soon after setting up in 2013. They appeared at our office – at that time in Miles’ house, with a memory stick with three concepts and tests on that we loved and we decided there and then to invest in them and their projects. They were a year or so out of University (UWE) so bursting with enthusiasm and looking for ways to take what they did to the next level.
The first things that we made together were pilots for ‘Lone Wolves’ and for ‘Rajesh Finesse’. Both were very well received by us and our followers and we decided to make more episodes of ‘Lone Wolves’ with a bigger budget. We also started working with them to develop their show Lottie Bearshout which caught the attention of the Disney EMEA team. When Disney asked us to pitch for one of their soccer short for the European Championships this summer we asked Tom and Martin to think of an idea for a Lottie Bearshout soccer short – and ‘Good as Goaled’ was the result.

The guys were slightly over modest when they said that we ‘plucked them from obscurity’ during their acceptance speech – they had made some animations for Frederator with Wonky Films before we met them – but they represent exactly the kind of talent and development opportunity that Wildseed thrives on. Hungry, energetic, talented and funny – Tom and Martin have it all!
So congratulations to them for their well deserved win.
We were also nominated for our Disney XD & Teletoon series ‘Counterfeit Cat‘ which we co-produce with Tricon Kids and Family in Canada. Unfortunately we didn’t win this category, which was won again by the excellent ‘Amazing Adventures of Gumball’. We’ll be back with Counterfeit Cat – we’ve only just got started! Congratulations to all the team for the nomination – no mean feat in itself for a new series.
Because ‘Good as Goaled’ is a short we weren’t able to include anyone on the credits so we wanted to put that right here and say a big thank you to everyone for their wonderful work on the show:
